    Children of Josiah RICE and Elizabeth HOOD:

i
RICE (female) [QQ5055]. Your authors note that her existence is in doubt. The only evidence in favor is a reference in the will of Josiah Rice to "son-in-law" Samuel Wood. Ward does not make clear whether that term has the modern meaning or the older one of "step-son". If, as Supplement 1 asserts (contrary to Ward and to the published transcription of the Framingham vital records), Josiah's wife was named Wood at the time of her marriage to Josiah, then this Samuel Wood was very likely her son by a previous marriage.1 {p49}

She married Samuel WOOD. He was thinly documented.
