On 8 August 1704, while the Rices were spreading flax to dry
near the house of Silas's uncle Thomas Rice, a small party of
Caughnawaga Mohawks attacked the group, killing Silas's brother
Nahor and capturing Silas and three other boys. The four
captives were carried off to Canada, where Silas was adopted
into the tribe and was given the name Tookanowras. He had a wife
and children there.1 {35-37}

Timothy RICE

On 8 August 1704, while the Rices were spreading flax to dry
