Rev. Caleb RICE [QQ1714, w347] (Caleb3, Joseph2, Edmund1) , born 13 Dec 1712 at Marlborough3 {p153}, son of Deacon Caleb RICE and Mary WARD. He died 2 Sep 1759, aged 46y at Sturbridge, MA163,1 {p81}. He was buried at Sturbridge, in Old Cemetery163. Graduated in 1730 - Harvard College, Cambridge, MA1 {40, 81}. He was ordained 29 Sep 1736 at Sturbridge, MA1 {p81}. According to Rev. Peter Whitney in his history of Worcester County: "He was a pastor after God's heart; sound in faith, a good preacher, endued with excellent ministerial gifts, and very exemplary in life, as well as social and benevolent in his deportment." He made a will 2 Aug 1754 at Sturbridge, mentioning wife Priscilla, sons Caleb and Nathan; daughters Priscilla and Mary Rice. Brothers-in-law Nathan and Thomas Payson and brother Jabez, Executors1 {p81}. His will was proved 3 Oct 17591 {p81}.

The Rice Family Supplement assigns this Caleb an alternate reference number (962a), evidently because of confusion over the mismatch between birth and baptism records. In addition, both the Supplement and Rice Genealogical Register say this Caleb married a Sarah, and the Rice Register, in particular, obviously confuses this Caleb with another (WRN 1381).2 {p128},45 {p15}
