Justinain Holden and Joseph Miller, witnesses. Holden was of Westminster. The deed was not acknowledged until 20 March 1743/44. Ward notes that this Ruth Rice was possibly the one who married Elisha Rice (WRN 1999). On the other hand, the Supplement states that she married John Rice (WRN 1182). We are tentatively following Ward for now, but further investigation is needed.1 {108, 232},45 {22, 39}

She married Elisha RICE 4 Apr 1782 at Northborough, MA, listed as Elisha of Westborough59,1 {108, 143, 232}. He was born 4 Apr 1756 at Westborough, MA, listed as Elijah, apparently in error57,1 {p143}, died in 1811, without issue1 {p232}, son of Joseph RICE and Eunice HARRINGTON. He was in the military about 1776, serving in the Revolution and engaged in several sanguinary battles; in one of which he was wounded in the head, and from his shattered skull thirteen pieces of bone were extracted that are yet preserved as mementoes of his daring courage and of his suffering, and of the righteous cause in which he perilled his life. His revolutionary services, as summed up on the Military Roles, were "42 months, 5 days, in the Light Infantry." There is no monument at Westborough to mark the resting place of this brave man and patriot soldier; his services have been forgotten, the fruits of them are seen and enjoyed. He sleeps, unconscious of neglect and of the harvest reaped from labor in part by him bestowed; of the extent of his country, now teeming with eightfold millions, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, jealous of its rights, and, as in his day, vindicating them with success [WARD p. 232]1 {p232}. He made a will 7 Jan 18071 {p232}. His will was proved 2 Jul 18111 {p232}. They declared their intention to marry 9 Feb 1782 at Westborough, listed as Ruth of Northborough57.
xiii
Joel RICE [QQ58602, w1446], born 13 Apr 1760 at Hardwick, MA114,1 {p108}. He was in the military about 1776, serving as a soldier in the Revolutionary War from Greenfield, 3 months, 25 days in Day's Company, 7th Regiment, and on the military rolls, marked "Dead"1 {p108}.

He married BRAGG, unproven1 {p108}. She was thinly documented.

Ezra Rice KING [QQ1685, w322] (Samuel Rice3, Samuel2 RICE, Edmund1) , born 22 May 1697 at Sudbury, MA1 {p38},2 {8, 35},45 {p5},14 {4, 7},11 {p82}, son of Lt Samuel Rice KING and Abigail CLAPP. He died 14 Jan 1746, (July per Supplement p. 4) at Cape Breton, Canada103,2 {p35},14 {4, 7}.

He married Silence RICE. She was born 30 Apr 1703 at Sudbury, MA11,1 {p30},2 {p35},14 {p7}, died 8 Dec 1763, aged 60y at Templeton, MA (under the name Bond)133,14 {p7}, was buried at Templeton, in Center Cemetery133, daughter of Jonas RICE and Mary STONE. Her gravestone in Templeton states that she married first Ezra King and second John Bond, and many have claimed that her second marriage was in 1751. There was indeed a Silence King who married a John Bond at Worcester in 1751, but that was a much younger Silence who continued bearing children for many years afterward and eventually died at Conway in 1812 aged 83.133,134,1 {p30},14 {p7} Supplement 1 and the Rice Gen'l Register mistakenly assert that Ezra King married Silence Bond. The error is corrected in Supplement 2, Part 1. See also the NEHGR vol. 130 pp. 302-42 {p35},45 {p5},14 {4, 7},22 {130:302} Neither the marriage of Ezra nor the births of any of his children are entered in the Sudbury vital records. Several of the births are found in the Worcester vital records, however.
